07/07

We celebrated Rohit's birthday on Thursday evening.
I got him the ipad, it's something Rohit has been wanting for a while now and I thought his birthday was the perfect excuse to splurge! Its been two days and we are addicted.

We also went out for dinner in the evening at Scalini Fedeli at Tribeca. We fell in love with the charming, romantic little place. The food was so delicious and the service was exceptionally warm. They were friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and never overbearing (Sidenote: R and I have been to dinner a couple of times to these places where they often almost force you to over order and then we end up wasting food - which is just terrible, but this place was not at all like that - which I loved!)

We also celebrated the next day at Rosa Mexicano which is a fun place near Lincoln Center. You have to try their guacamole and frozen sangria!

A pre birthday dinner - loved the galvanized tins in which they served bread

A year in photographs: Days 160 through 162

Rohit's parents are in town to spend a little time with us and we took them to Niagara Falls this weekend. I last went to visit the Falls when I believe I was 10 years old and now many years later it is still as inspiring and beautiful as when I first saw it.

A year in photographs: Days 151 through 159

Snippets of New York in the Summer.

Side note, I really want to be part of a television audience some day. Just a passive audience member, I don't have the courage to be the butt of a joke on national television! :)

A year in photographs: Days 140 through 150

Over the last weekend, we went to South Carolina - Charleston and Myrtle Beach. While Myrtle Beach was okay, Charleston is where I left a little piece of my heart! So charming and quaint and perfect in nearly every way.

The pics below are from the last few days as well as our weekend.

Myrtle Beach - the Ferris Wheels seem so modern!

A year in photographs: Days 128 through 133

My parents visited Istanbul a few months ago and one of the gifts they got me back was this key chain. I'm not much of a trinkets/key chains girl, but this one I adore!

NYC fire escapes!

I loved these large almost flamboyant hats and the bored, slightly snooty expression on the mannequin heads!

Walking by Union Square, you can always see pairs of people intently playing chess - I keep promising myself that one of these days I'm going to stop and watch a whole game.

It is so rare in this crazy, crowded city that you see a completely empty/desolate area.

Asparagus :)

A year in photographs: Days 124 through 127

ummm.
Somehow I don't think this window display was targeting the children!

  The moon!
A happy daisy at The Chocolate Room in Brooklyn.

These sparrows are adorable enjoying the fountains on a warm May afternoon. Since it's Mother's Day I'd like to think of the poised one as a Mother and the one that is falling in face first as the child!

p.s. A very happy mother's day to all the mothers out there.

A year in photographs: Days 120 through 123

April showers bring May flowers!
I'd been reciting this all through April :)
p.s. I think Purple and Green just might be my favorite combination in nature.

 The Columbus Circle Fountain.

 The Tiny Planets App again!

A wedding invite from a friend. Even though its been over a year since we got married, I still love seeing mail addressed to both Rohit and me - even all the junk mail! haha! I think it may wear of soon though.

A year in photographs: Days 114 through 119

Will Ryman's installation 'The Roses' on Park Avenue.

Pigeons again. See what I mean about the feathers - so very pretty.

The Indian Flag at the Taj owned Hotel Pierre. I often feel a surge of pride at the silliest of times!

Subways.

A year in photographs: Day 113

Rohit and I spent the afternoon at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden where the cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
Just g.o.r.g.e.o.u.s.

I cannot believe this is the first time in nearly five years we've been there.

A year in photographs: Days 108 through 112

Another favorite app of mine, Hipstamatic - love it.

Central Park West.
I often go out of my way just so that I can walk down this ave.

Sometimes I wish all the buildings in the city were old and beautiful (but then I guess I probably wouldn't notice these as much!)

If I were the jealous type, this would be my arch enemy! :)

Dandelions blowing in the wind and chasing the beautiful seeds will always be one of my favorite snapshots from childhood.

 Spring ...

... has Sprung! (yes winter was that long)

A year in photographs: Days 99 through 101

Spring is here!
We've had a long winter and seen a lot of April Showers, but I think Spring is finally here ... or at least close!

This is a watercolor that a friend of Karin's did for my birthday. There's something so lyrical about it and I cannot wait to frame it and put it up!

This is a fun, free (!) app called Tiny Planets. Its fascinating and I've been playing with it since I got it.

A year in photographs: Day 98

For a while now, I've been thinking of having a small collection of something. My sister came up with the idea of tea kettles and I loved it immediately.
This is a picture of a tin kettle that my mother hand painted so beautifully. This picture doesn't do justice to the colors and I will post another picture of it soon, but it has vibrant blues, reds, greens and a little bit of yellow. My mother painted the spout into an elephant's trunk and I thought that was such a great idea.

It's so lovely and makes my day each time I look at it!

A year in photographs: Day 97

I was walking back from work and I saw this little boy playing with the pigeons - he kept trying to pick them up and he'd tread so softly (even though we were on Times Square probably the nosiest place I know of), little hands stretched out oblivious to the people all around him. Each time he got so close that I thought "this time for sure, he's going to manage" and then they would suddenly fly away.

I loved how delicate the wings of the pigeon looked. So beautiful.
